Jose Mourinho has been sacked by Manchester United, and his memory certainly looks quick to be forgotten given how well Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s reign has been going. However, some hints of the Portuguese gaffer’s transfer plans may linger on.

A tremendous sum of money was given to Mourinho, but his spending didn’t account for much, with a failure to perform at the top level despite the investments assured to him allegedly a massive factor in his sacking.

Now, the winter window is mere days away from opening, and the Mancunian giants will be eager to get ahead of the curve by making possible reinforcements to their squad.

According to La Repubblica, United are still deep in talks to sign Fiorentina defender Nikola Milenković in the coming days. The 21-year-old was personally scouted by Mourinho, and was believed to be high up on his wish list for the January window had he stayed on.

The reports claim that the Serb’s agent is close to sealing a deal that will see the youngster arrive at Old Trafford, with the bulk of the talks thought to have taken place over the Christmas period.

Further, it is understood that the Serie A club is expecting around £45 million for the player’s services, mainly due to the fact that he is held under contract until 2022.

At the same time, the possibility still exists that the move itself may be shelved until the summer.

United are thought to be hesitant at spending too much under Solskjaer, as he most likely won’t be at the helm at the start of next season, when the club is believed to undergo a massive revamp under new management.

Until then, an attempt to plug their defense seems to be the major goal at hand, but perhaps the youngster’s price-tag isn’t justified.
