Manchester United have been linked with a number of central defensive players over the past month. The Red Devils need to bring in an experienced centre-back to marshal the defensive line, someone who could take the role of Nemanja Vidic.

Kalidou Koulibaly and Milan Skriniar are said to be the top targets, but their high release clauses have forced the club to look elsewhere. One such alternative is Eder Militao, who has taken European football by storm since moving to Porto before the start of this season.

The Brazilian international has made 23 appearances this season, scoring two goals across all competitions.

Militao received his first international call up in September, as Tite chose the youngster to replace the injured Fagner. He made his debut against Salvador on 11th September, playing the entire 90 minutes, which saw the Seleção win 5-0.

Reports suggest that Manchester United officials are fond of the 20-year-old, and are ready to make a move if they fail to bring in their top targets. But it looks like another European giant could be set to secure his services by the end of this month.

According to Brazilian media outlet SporTv, Militao is set to join Real Madrid at the end of this season, as he has reached a ‘verbal agreement’ with them.

Currently, his release clause is valued at £44 million, which would rise up to £66 million in July. Los Blancos are likely to activate the clause soon, as they look to deal with the constant injuries to Raphael Varane.

In an interview with AS, Militao’s agent Giuliano Bertolucci revealed that a move to the Spanish capital could be on the cards this summer, as he admitted: “We’re not ruling out his signing for Real Madrid in the summer.”

This will affect Manchester United‘s transfer strategy, but they may have more options lined up, as reports suggest the Red Devils have turned their attention to Ajax’s Matthijs De Ligt, the 2018 Golden Boy award winner.
