The summer of 2019 is expected to be a busy one for Manchester United.

Manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is keen to be ruthless in terms of outgoings. The reality that Solskjaer has faced is that his squad is way behind Europe’s elite clubs at the moment, and he needs resources that believe in his ideology going forward.

United are expected to sanction the departures of several player in a most likely scenario. Antonio Valencia is already leaving and Ander Herrera is expected to join him in the list.

The futures of Marcos Rojo and Matteo Darmian also do not look bright. Juan Mata could leave as well, with no agreement over a new deal taking place. United are also open to the sale of Alexis Sanchez, but things could be tricky with his wages.

But a surprising name has also cropped up on this list, that of forward Romelu Lukaku. The Belgian was signed by former boss Jose Mourinho in the summer of 2017.

Lukaku’s form in his second season at the Old Trafford club has been a worrisome aspect. And a report in The Telegraph states that the former Everton striker could be on the way out, with Italy being the likely destination.

Lukaku’s representative, Federico Pastorello, had said in a television interview earlier this month that his client’s future was “very open”.

The report further adds that besides Italian clubs Inter Milan and Juventus, the likes of Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern Munich are also interested in the player.

Doubts remain over the Belgian’s playing style, on whether it fits the blueprint of the way Solskjaer wants to play going forward. Lukaku has managed to score just 15 goals this season from 42 appearances.
