Alexis Sanchez has turned out to be a costly mistake for Manchester United. The Chilean, who moved to United from Arsenal in January 2018 in a swap deal, has failed to produce substance of any form. Injuries and poor form has plagued his career here at the club.

Sanchez earns the most money among players at United in terms of weekly wages. And that could be a hindrance for other European clubs, who are interested in the player.

United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer wants to get rid of Sanchez in the summer of 2019. Patience has run out with the player, who has dropped considerably.

According to a report in the Daily Mail, Sanchez’s total earnings at United is around a whopping £26m per year. And this could lead United to pay half of his salary, if he manages to join another club.

It will mean paying another club £13m a year – but then it will lead to shaving £250,000 per week from the wage bill.

This will also help the Mancunian club offer better packages to their summer targets.

The report also adds that United believe the best way to offload the former Arsenal star before next season would be on loan. This could enable them to hopefully negotiate a better exit for the 30-year-old in the summer of 2020.

It remains to be seen which European club takes a gamble on the player.

United will also hope that a Chinese club comes calling for Sanchez and matches the deal. But then the player will have to agree on a move to Asia. Altogether, Sanchez’s situation is a mystery.
