Napoli have rejected Manchester United’s bid for Kalidou Koulibaly.

The Napoli superstar has been sensational once again this season, so much so, that he was handed the best defender in the Serie A 2018/19 award.

The award win was apparently followed by a humongous offer from Manchester United, who continue to pursue Koulibaly in order to improve their backline ahead of next season.

According to Gazzetta dello Sport journalist Nicolò Schira, the Red Devils submitted a bid worth €110 million for the 27-year-old, which would have made Koulibaly the most expensive defender of all time.

However, the English outfit’s approach was turned down straightaway by Napoli, as they intend to hold onto the Senegalese international for at least another year.

Further, club president Aurelio De Laurentiis is expected to turn down each and every approach made for Koulibaly throughout this summer window.

The report adds that Napoli value the star centre-back in the region of €150m, and a release clause worth the same amount has been inserted in his contract, but it won’t come into play until June 2020.

It remains to be seen if Manchester United return with an improved offer for their prime defensive target this summer, and further test the Serie A giants’ resolve.
