Manchester United have added Benfica defender Ruben Dias on their summer wishlist.

The Red Devils are on a serious lookout for defensive reinforcements, with strengthening the centre-back position being their topmost priority for the summer.

A numbers of defenders have already been heavily linked with a switch to Old Trafford, but no transfer has materialised as of yet.

Now, Manchester United have identified yet another target to pursue, in the form of Benfica centre-back Ruben Dias.

According to A Bola, the Mancunian giants are “closing in” on Dias, after failing in their pursuits of other expensive centre-backs.

Kalidou Koulibaly was said to be their primary target, but United seem to have ended their interest after Napoli demanded €96 million for the Senegalese international.

In comparison, the €60 million price tag on Dias’ head makes this transfer easier to pull off, and Manchester United could go all the way to sign the Portuguese international up.

The 22-year-old has established himself as a key player for Benfica in recent years, having missed only 6% of their games in the Liga NOS last season, and bagging three goals and an assist.

Along with Dias, Ajax superstar Matthijs de Ligt and Tottenham Hotspur’s Toby Alderweireld remain on the Reds’ list of targets.
