Ole Gunnar Solskjaer appears ready to offload Phil Jones this summer.

Manchester United made an approach for West Ham United centre-back Issa Diop last weekend, offering £45m plus a player for the Frenchman’s services.

While the player offered by the Mancunian giants was initially unknown, The Sun now claim that it was none other than Phil Jones.

The report states that West Ham rejected the Red Devils’ bid partly because they wish to hold on to Diop, but also because they have no interest in signing Jones.

However, the Englishman’s future at the Old Trafford club seems to be in jeopardy nonetheless, as manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has deemed him ‘expendable’.

After last season’s final-day home defeat to Cardiff City, wherein Jones was subbed off at half-time, Solskjaer had declared that some of the players from the current squad may have played their last game for the club.

The 27-year-old defender certainly seems to be one of them, with the Norwegian gaffer ready to offload him despite Jones signing a new contract in February 2019.

It remains to be seen whether the former Blackburn man is eventually included in the Diop deal, or if the Reds sell him to another club in a separate transfer.
