Manchester United are said to be eyeing a surprise move for Blaise Matuidi.

Following the departures of Marouane Fellaini and Ander Herrera in January and June 2019 respectively, it is clear that the Red Devils need to bring in midfield reinforcements in the ongoing transfer window.

Further, after watching his performances last season, fans also believe Nemanja Matic’s legs are “gone”, but there exists no defensive midfield cover for the 30-year-old Serbian at Old Trafford.

Now, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer might be eyeing a short-term solution to that problem, in the form of Juventus star Blaise Matuidi.

The Turin-based outfit signed Aaron Ramsey and Adrien Rabiot in two sensational free transfers this summer, but their arrival has opened the exit doors for some of their older midfield options.

Sami Khedira and Blaise Matuidi are subsequently expected to depart, but the latter has attracted a lot more high-profile interest compared to his German counterpart.

According to Corriere dello Sport, Paris Saint-Germain as well as Manchester United are “at the window” for Matuidi, who is said to be looking for his last big paycheck, given he is 32 years of age.

The Frenchman’s current contract with Juve will expire next summer, meaning he would be available for cheap this summer, and signing him would not be too big a task for any interested party.

The World Cup winner could prove to be a sensible signing for the Mancunians, as he would provide a short-term cover in the defensive midfield department, whilst also sparing United the time to look for a proper long-term candidate.
