Manchester United’s summer pursuits are going off the charts as they run closer to deadline day. The sheer number of sagas that the Red Devils are now reportedly involved in keep piling up, even as past deals remain on the verge of completion.

At the moment, it is the exit of Romelu Lukaku to Juventus and the possibility of Paulo Dybala coming in from the Serie A giants that appearS to be the main focus of the Premier League side.

However, they could tie up another name using these negotiations.

As per Gazzetta Dello Sport (via the Mirror), Manchester United are ‘weighing up an approach’ for Juventus defender Daniele Rugani. The need for the central defender has been necessitated after Eric Bailly suffered an injury that will rule him out of action for up to five months.

While Harry Maguire is still the main focus of the club with regard to defensive arrivals, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is hoping to use the ongoing Dybala negotiations to try and pry away the 25-year-old Italian.

Arsenal were another Premier League club interested in the defender, with the Gunners allegedly launching a two-year loan deal option for him.

At this point, it is unclear what kind of a deal United want for Rugani. It will be interesting to see how it affects the rest of their business prior to deadline day.

If Maguire arrives, it is evident that he will partner Victor Lindelof in the heart of United’s defense. That leaves Chris Smalling and Phil Jones as back-up options along with Marcos Rojo. As of such, the arrival of yet another defender may mean that one of the above-mentioned names may be bidding goodbye to Old Trafford soon.

Despite having the numbers, the clubs woefully lacked in defensive quality last season. Will that change in the upcoming campaign?
