Manchester United were successful in wrapping up their pre-season tour on a positive note as they won on penalties against AC Milan in Cardiff.
The Red Devils tied the full-time score 2-2, having opened the scoring via Marcus Rashford, following which Milan scored twice through Suso and a Victor Lindelof own-goal. However, Jesse Lingard was able to keep the Premier League side in the fixture with his second-half goal.
David De Gea’s save was successful in winning the penalty shootout as the men in red buried all five of their attempts.
This means that United had a fruitful pre-season with a 100% win rate, precisely the sort of momentum they require before heading into the next campaign.
While these games did flaunt their strengths and new signings, it also pointed out the evident flaws in their roster.
During the game, it was the performance of Nemanja Matic in particular that seemed to have irked supporters, who took to social media to let their displeasure known.
Matic pushing for a move to AC Milan, great performance for them so far

Matic is supposed to screen the backline but my guy does the complete opposite.

I don't see the value Nemanja Matic brings anymore. He can't turn. Already looking light in midfield as it is.

Regardless of Pogba’s future, if United don’t add at least one midfielder (and probably two) who can slot straight into the starting eleven, it will have been a breathtaking dereliction if duty. 5 days left.

Despite how active the club is rumored to be in the window going into these final days, the display from Matic led to many pleas for more signings to be completed.
This is despite the fact that it was the Serbian international’s clever pass that resulted in Marcus Rashford’s opener.
It has to also be noted that the young academy graduates at the side have also proven to be incredibly impressive during this tour. As of such, even if fresh midfield signings aren’t added to their roster, these under-studies certainly have it in them to start for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
