Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has named Ashley Young the club captain for next season.

The Norwegian tactician has confirmed that Young will wear the armband for Manchester United whenever he steps onto the pitch, while David De Gea will also be in contention for the same.

Speaking after the Reds’ win over AC Milan, Ole confirmed: “David [de Gea]’s obviously in contention, Ash when he’s on the pitch will carry the armband. When Ash starts he’ll be carrying the armband.”

When asked whether that meant Young has been named the new club captain, Solskjaer replied: “You can probably call it that.”

While the decision received mixed reactions, it certainly has not gone down too well with a majority of the club’s fanbase, mainly due to the consistently mediocre performances displayed by Young throughout the previous campaign.

Supporters instead want to see the likes of Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Diogo Dalot, and Luke Shaw starting in the full-back positions over the experienced veteran.
