Wayne Rooney could be set for a sensational return to English football.

The Manchester United legend has been lighting the MLS on fire with his brilliant performances ever since his switch to DC United.

But after having spent just a year in the United States of America, the former England captain could be set to make a shocking return to his homeland.

According to the Telegraph, Rooney is currently discussing a player-coach role with Championship outfit Derby County.

Derby County owner Mel Morris is said to be eager to appoint yet another former England star to work with his players.

Morris only recently brought in Phillip Cocu as a replacement for former gaffer Frank Lampard, who returned to manage his former club, Chelsea.

Rooney’s agent, Paul Stretford, has already held preliminary talks with the Rams. Moreover, further discussions have also been scheduled.

However, the 33-year-old is contracted with DC United until 2021, and it remains to be seen how this move will actually materialise.
