United Fans Love What Robin van Persie Did During Kompany’s Testimonial Match

Even though Manchester United are struggling for form at the moment, there is simply no denying that the club boasts of a tremendous global following.

Ever since the departure of Sir Alex Ferguson, the club has failed to taste consistent success in domestic and European competitions and the renaissance that was repeatedly exerted failing to show up completely.

As of such, the side is inching all the more closer towards becoming an outfit that relies on nostalgia and hobbles with its crutch of history.

One such episode may have come recently during Vincent Kompany’s testimonial fixture.

The game consisted of Manchester City Legends vs Premier League All-Stars XI. However, the sheer number of former Red Devils in the all-stars side would have easily led someone to perceive that it was a Manchester derby reunion instead.

Those included the likes of Paul Scholes, Gary Neville, Edwin van der Sar, John O’Shea, Wes Brown, Nicky Butt, Michael Carrick, Ryan Giggs, and Robin van Persie.

Amongst these, it was van Persie who succeeded in winning the hearts of spectators. The Dutchman scored an instrumental goal in the fixture which fittingly ended in a 2-2 draw.

However, what elated fans even further is that United’s former no.20 sported the Red Devils’ shin-pads during the game.

Van Persie spent just upwards of three seasons at Old Trafford and yet it is evident in gestures like this that he perhaps favors the Mancunian giants over Arsenal with whom he rose to prominence.

This move was received strongly on social media, with many even commenting that this sort of love for the club may be scarce amongst some of the names currently plying their trade for United.

Will the Red Devils succeed in finding another prolific and clinical goal scorer like van Persie in the near future?
