Ever since the departure of Jose Mourinho, Nemanja Matic has fallen well below the pecking order at Manchester United.

However, that hasn’t stopped him from drawing interest from big sides. Just in August, the Serbian was wanted by AC Milan who looked to strengthen their midfield with experience. But Matic ultimately ended up staying at Old Trafford.

Nevertheless, that didn’t mean the former Chelsea man was in for a starter spot as Fred, Andreas Pereira and Scott McTominay have all been favoured over him by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. With just 5 appearances in all competitions, it seemed unlikely that the midfielder would bring interest from any big sides.

Surprisingly though, Atletico Madrid have emerged with interest in the Serbian international, as per ESPN FC.

According to the report, the Spanish outfit see benefit in the defensive midfielder’s experience, especially in the Champions League as he is eligible since having only made appearances in the Europa League this season.

The Benfica product’s contract expires at the end of the season with the Red Devils having an option to extend it to another 12 months. Though it is very unlikely they would choose to do so.

On the other hand, life in Manchester is not exactly comfortable for the veteran as fans no longer see him as a valuable asset.

Moreover, with Matic has managed to get on the bad side of the supporters with some unusual social media activities, with the most recent being a joke about following Jose Mourinho to Tottenham Hotspur and liking a comment written by a fan that antagonises Solskjaer.

Furthermore, the report states that the Manchester outfit would not hesitate to offload the Serbian midfielder if the right offer comes in.
