Mainly focusing on midfielders this time, Manchester United were keeping various players under their radar in the hopes of bolstering up the team this month.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer believes the squad is short on effective midfielders and hence have been displaying an urge to sign a creative player who operates in the centre of the field with primary target being Bruno Fernandes.

Nevertheless as the winter window draws near its conclusion, it’s being reported recently that the Mancunian club have portrayed interest in Ivan Rakitic. ESPN claims that the Red Devils have inquired about the Croatian’s availability.

Although there appears to be various obstacles standing in the way of the transfer, the 31-year-old has his family settled in Spain which remains a primary obstruction. Regardless, the deal linking Fernandes to United is reportedly going well, and the completion of which would affect their pursuit of the Barca midfielder.

Multiple injuries of the players operating in that position had concerned the Norwegian manager by quite an extent, evident from the options the English club are viewing in the transfer window.

With Scott McTominay’s and Paul Pogba’s future at Old Trafford this season still remaining unclear, an adequate addition to the squad seems to be critical if they really wish to get hold of the FA cup or a Champions League spot.

Taking a peek at the stats meanwhile, the Sporting midfielder has bagged 15 goals and 14 assists whereas Rakitic has registered only 2 assists with no goals this season. Nevertheless, it’s understood that the talented Barcelona star has a contract which fastens him at Camp Nou until 2021 but would be allowed to leave for a fee in the region of €20 million.
