Bruno Fernandes has been named as the most valuable midfielder in Europe as he leaves Paul Pogba far behind.

The former Sporting star has recorded 16 goals and 14 assists across all competitions, and since making his long-expected switch to Manchester United, Fernandes has proved to be an instant-impact figure.

On the other hand, Pogba has failed to make any impact this season as he succumbed to injury woes for the better half of this campaign.

The Frenchman had displayed immense performances in 2018/19, ending the season with 16 goals and 11 assists. However, the former Juventus man’s recent absence and lack of consistency has seen his value drop as per CIES Football Observatory.

CIES takes into account a player’s age, form, remainder of their contract etc. in order to calculate a figure, and they’ve determined the French international is only the 20th most valuable midfielder in the world at £44.9 million.

Meanwhile, Bruno Fernandes is now valued at £93.5 million, ahead of second placed Mason Mount of Chelsea (£91.5 million) and third placed Barcelona’s Frenkie de Jong (£91 million).

The attacking midfielder’s arrival at one of Europe’s top-five leagues was certainly late, but it hasn’t taken long for the Portugal international to cement his spot amongst Europe’s elites.
