Manchester United hosted Brighton & Hove Albion on the eve of the transfer window opening in a 3-0 thriller.

The hosts lined up their best midfield for the second time this season, putting up another display of how good they can really be.

An early first-half goal from Mason Greenwood set the tone for the rest of the match. The youngster showed yet again why he’s often compared to Golden Boot winner Robin van Persie. Bruno Fernandes followed up with a goal from outside the box via a Paul Pogba assist after his previous effort hit the post.

Following that, the Portuguese finished Brighton off in the second-half with a beautiful short-range volley which came at the end of an electric counter-attack.

Pogba and Fernandes stood out as the best performers, but according to former Red Devil Patrice Evra, it was Nemanja Matic who put up the best display.

The Serbian put up an incredible performance at the Amex Stadium, offering great defensive stability and progressive play in midfield. In fact, the third goal could be attributed to him completely as it was Matic’s pinpoint long ball to Mason Greenwood that made the goal possible.

Moreover, according to Evra, the former Chelsea man deserved the Man of the Match award.

“We talk about Bruno and Paul Pogba, but what about Matic? For me, he was the Man of the Match,” the Frenchman told Sky Sports.

Many may agree with the former French international as it is the defensive midfielder who makes United’s new midfield work. Moreover, the Serb was also the stand-out performer in his previous outing as well.
