Thiago Alcantara Could Be Headed To United Or Liverpool
Thiago Alcantara is likely to depart the Allianz Arena this summer as Manchester United remain amongst the clubs he’s believed to be heading to.
The Bayern Munich man’s current contract is set to expire in about a year and it seems that he’s seeking a new challenge. And it is in the Bavarian’s agenda that they do not lose him for free.
“He is a top boy on and off the pitch,” Bayern CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge told Bild.
“We had serious negotiations with him and fulfilled all of his wishes. But it looks like he might want to do something new again at the end of his career.
“We have never had any contact with Liverpool. If he wants to do that, we have to deal with it.
“We don’t want to lose a player for free next year. I say that very clearly.”
Meanwhile, according to reliable German journalist Christian Falk, there is a belief among the Bayern camp that the midfielder is heading to United or Liverpool.
The Red Devils desperately need a central midfielder as Scott McTominay and Fred have proven to be somewhat inconsistent, whilst Nemanja Matic isn’t getting any younger. Moreover, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s squad lacks a natural playmaker, especially one that can build from deep.
On the other hand, Liverpool also lack technical ability in the region with Jordan Henderson being the only consistent figure in midfield whilst the entire burden of playmaking is shouldered by Roberto Firmino.
Objectively speaking, the 29-year-old would fare better at Anfield as the Mancunian giants need a defensive midfielder more than another box-to-box midfielder.
Nevertheless, if a deal can be arranged for the former Barcelona star, he would be an amazing addition to Solskjaer’s midfield trio.
