No Player Has Scored More PL Goals From Outside The Box Than Greenwood This Season
Mason Greenwood has been nothing short of exceptional for Manchester United. His recent goal-scoring numbers have been such that he is realistically expected to find the back of the net every time a ball is played to him near the box.
Thursday’s game against Aston Villa saw the teenager on the scoresheet yet again, continuing his great numbers from the previous games and adding his season-long tally to 16 goals strong.
While those numbers are impressive all on their own, the 18-year-old with his excellent strike at Villa Park, now has his name on another impressive statistic.
With his goal on Thursday, Greenwood has now netted 4 goals from outside the box this season. While that number alone is great, what makes it beyond excellence is the fact that no player has scored more in the whole of the Premier League.

This is certainly surprising given the long-range potential not just in the League but in United’s roster alone. Further still, a lot of Greenwood’s gametime before this post-lockdown period was in the form of substitutions, many of them late in games.
As such, this tally, as well as his present numbers of 9 League goals so far this campaign screams of a sublime player in the making. In fact, this hunger for goals could very easily translate into a 20+ tally for him as well judging by how much of the season is still left across all competitions.
One does wonder just what kind of a talent Greenwood will go on to become if his opening numbers itself are this good and of such quality.
