Manchester United have made an initial bid for Douglas Costa as per reports.

Ole Gunnar Solskjær and company’s pursuit of Jadon Sancho is still in some limbo. Just over two weeks ago, the teenager’s arrivals at Old Trafford appeared imminent with all aspects of the deal appearing done and dusted.

However, since then, the enormous transfer fee the player commands remains a sticking point with Borussia Dortmund not looking to budge from their stance.

As such, the club is looking at alternatives in case the deal doesn’t materialize and they seem to have sought out a worthwhile player.

According to Corriere dello Sport, Manchester United have made an initial bid of £27 million for Douglas Costa.

It is understood that Juventus’ new manager Andrea Pirlo will be looking to make wage cuts at the Italian side and letting players leave will be the best way to achieve the same.

As such, it seems that the Old Lady is intent on selling the 29-year-old Costa and that the Old Trafford outfit may be looking to capitalize on the same.

The report adds that the winger is being looked at as a potential Sancho replacement given the terse stage of that particular saga. Further, the bid in question is supposed to be a tester of sorts as the claim also suggests that the Serie A side will look to squeeze another £10 million or so from a potential sale.

The fact that the Brazilian is under contract until 2022 does make it a relatively easy affair for Juventus to negotiate although their own economic priorities may force the saga. Further, it is believed that Solskjær himself values the winger and holds that the player’s proven experience could be immensely helpful for the relatively youthful United frontline.
