Anthony Martial was one of Man Utd’s best players in the post-lockdown period, as he finished the 2019-20 campaign with 23 goals in all competitions.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has publicly backed the Frenchman multiple times, and his decision to bring Odion Ighalo on loan provided a much needed motivation and only aided Martial’s development.

However, the France international has not to picked up from where he left off in the new season, and has failed to react positively to Edinson Cavani’s arrival up until now.

Martial has been criticised for his lack of movement, and Cavani’s performance against Southampton underlined what a natural number nine can offer to the manager.

Nevertheless, the former PSG man is on the wrong side of the 30s, and a long-term project cannot be built around him.

According to Eurosport, the Premier League giants are weighing up how to shape their forward line over the coming year, and there’s an increasing possibility that Martial will depart Old Trafford in the summer.

The 25-year-old has also struggled with recurring injuries, and he missed the club’s crucial Champions League tie against RB Leipzig after coming off injured in the second-half against West Ham at the London Stadium last week.

The former Monaco forward will be hoping to return to action soon, and make the centre-forward position his own, or else his fifth season at Man Utd could turn out to be his last with a new face donning his number 9 shirt at Old Trafford next season.
