Manchester United seem to have made it a habit to be outrageous. The Red Devils secured a 4-0 victory over Real Sociedad on Thursday. The Europa League Round of 32 first leg was held in Turin as a neutral venue and saw a mini-goalfest.

Bruno Fernandes was the unsurprising hero of the night, with two excellent goals to his name. Marcus Rashford added to that effort while Daniel James waited until late to let his sparks fly, ending a near-perfect away leg.

Fans were provided plenty of entertainment during the game, despite the forwards missing a lot of chances. Amad Diallo’s debut did provide them with a talking point while the antics of former Red Devil Adnan Januzaj must have sparked fond memories as well.

However, it was a missed chance from one current player that did stand out and for hilarious reasons.

Eric Bailly returned to action after yet another period of injury. The defender was excellent during the night, playing an instrumental role in the hard-earned cleansheet.

However, the Ivory Coast international did catch the attention of the viewers during a corner-kick in the opposition half.

Near the 70th minute of the game, when United were leading 3-0, a corner was won by them and a clean ball was slotted in. Harry Maguire did get his indomitable head to it, but the deflection off Alex Remiro did save the side a goal.

Interestingly though, the deflection did make it to Bailly who did not hesitate one bit in trying to attempt a frankly audacious scissor-kick. No contact was made and the referee did blow the whistle for a foul inside the box. Bailly too walked away as if nothing had occurred.

However, the move was on-brand for the centre-back who is used to such antics.
