Manchester United’s triumph over Tottenham Hotspur was in part due to the excellent showing of Paul Pogba.

The Frenchman, given a start having found his form again post-injury troubles, did his best to give the home side plenty of trouble.

Even though it was Fred, Edinson Cavani, and Mason Greenwood who found themselves on the scoresheet, there was plenty of contribution from the former Juventus midfielder in the final result of the game.

In particular, it was Pogba’s run and impeccable pass that set-up Cavani for the early goal that was controversially disallowed by the referee following VAR intervention due to a purported foul in the build-up by Scott McTominay.

Apart from that, Pogba did contribute directly to Mason Greenwood’s late goal, with the assist coming in as a result of his committed run and sharp pass to the teenager who made little mistake in finishing it.

In fact, his 6 completed take-ons from the 9 attempted ones were the highest that he has notched since from back in 2016 when he re-joined the Red Devils.

Fans certainly took notice of this and riddled twitter with reactions, mainly plying praise on the midfielder for his comeback heroics.

Pogba’s performance takes special importance given that it was against Jose Mourinho’s outfit.

The two had a stormy relationship towards the end of Mourinho’s tenure at Old Trafford, with much speculation even concluding that the Portuguese gaffer’s eventual ousting was perhaps as a result of the fallout with the highly-valued Frenchman.

Incidentally, the Special One was not very amused with Pogba’s contribution in the game, with him even opining that he ought to have seen a red card due to a challenge on Serge Aurier.

With 5 goals and 4 assists this campaign, it will be interesting to see just how many more he is able to notch before the season comes to an end.
