Real Madrid expect the departure of their star defender Raphael Varane.

The Frenchman arrived at the Bernabeu from RC Lens a decade ago and has managed to win everything he possibly could at club-level during his time there. And as he rose to world-class status, Varane also earned a well-deserved World Cup medal.

There is no doubt that the defender’s career has contributed heavily to Real and France successes during the same period.

However, it looks like the French international is set to bid farewell to the Spanish club as Carrusel Deportivo suggest that he will not be extending his contract at Madrid. Los Balcos already expect the centre-back to leave following his refusal to accept the offers given to him.

The ex-Lens man is said to be looking for a way out while the La Liga giants are willing to cash in on him if a good offer arrives.

This leaves room for Man United to make a move for him as they have been long-term admirers of the towering defender. In fact, the Red Devils have already made significant approaches already according to MEN, who claim a £50 million offer was submitted earlier this week.

Although the figure was significant, the report goes on to say that Carlo Ancelotti’s side are looking for a sum in the region of £80 million – a pricetag equal to Harry Maguire’s record-breaking move from Leicester City to United.

It does seem unlikely that the English giants would match the valuation but if they were to be serious, we could see the situation develop more as the two parties negotiate for a compromise in the coming weeks.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s squad lacks a consistent and competent partner for Maguire. Victor Lindelof struggles to put above-average performances regularly while Eric Bailly’s injury records speak for themselves.

As such, the 28-year-old is a perfect target to fulfil this role but it remains to be seen whether he can be priced away.
