Raphael Varane To Man Utd: Real Madrid Give Defender ‘Green Light To Negotiate’ Exit
Real Madrid have given ‘green light’ to Man Utd transfer target Raphael Varane to negotiate his departure.
The Red Devils have been on the lookout for a competent partner for Harry Maguire and their search has led them to the Frenchman. Varane has entered the final year of his contract and will be a free agent following the next 12 months.
It had been widely reported that the defender would prefer to leave this summer and his ideal destination is said to be the Premier League.
Now, according to Marca (via Sports Witness), Los Blancos have decided to allow the French international to discuss his potential transfer with Man Utd.
Meanwhile, the centre-back is on vacation following France’s elimination from Euro 2020 by the hands of Switzerland. The World Cup winner’s future is still very much in the air as there is still a possibility of him extending his contract, running it down or securing a transfer to England.
However, the most likely outcome is said to be an exit from the Santiago Bernabeu and Old Trafford is reportedly his ‘main destination’.
The Spanish giants are seeking a figure around the €60 million mark for their star centre-back. But it still remains unclear whether the Premier League outfit would be willing to match that sum. Having agreed on an astronomical fee for the impending transfer of Jadon Sancho, the English side might tread carefully when it comes to financial decisions.
Nevertheless, the 28-year-old would be a valuable addition and significant upgrade to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s roster. Now all that remains to be seen is whether the club decides if splashing another huge amount on a single player is worth it or not.
