AS Roma are monitoring the situation of Alex Telles, as they look for a cover for Leonardo Spinazzola.

Italy left-back Spinazzola has been named in the official Team of the Tournament for EURO 2020 ahead of Luke Shaw, one of England’s best players in the Euros.

Nevertheless, due to the injury the Italian suffered against Belgium in the quarter-final, he won’t be available at Jose Mourinho’s disposal for the next few months.

As such, the new Roma boss is reportedly in search for a new left-back to temporarily cover the Euro 2020 winner. According to Gianluca Di Marzio, the Serie A outfit are monitoring Telles, who’s a backup for Shaw at Old Trafford. Contacts between the parties are underway, with Roma pushing for a loan move.

For now, it’s unlikely Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will allow the Brazilian to depart. Academy left-back Brandon Williams is expected to join Southampton on a season-long loan, leaving the Brazilian as the only cover option for the Englishman.

Further, Telles’ attacking display in his maiden season arguably warrants another campaign to properly challenge Shaw. The former FC Porto captain is too valuable to let go on a loan.

Perhaps a fee in the region of Atletico Madrid’s asking price for Kieran Trippier – United’s target for the right-back position – could convince the Premier League giants to sanction Telles’ exit.

However, as thing stands, there are no indications that Roma are interested in signing a left-back on a permanent basis.
