Jerome Boateng is looking to sign for Man Utd this summer, three years after rejecting the opportunity to join the Jose Mourinho-led side.

The two-time Champions League winning centre-back is available on a free transfer following his exit from Bayern Munich.

Multiple European clubs are interested in acquiring his services, but he’s eyeing Champions League football with his ‘dream’ destination Man Utd, reports Calciomercato.it (via the Daily Star).

The German defender was wanted by United’s former boss Mourinho in the summer of 2018, but he phoned the now Roma boss to tell him he wouldn’t be joining the Red Devils, opting to extend his stay with Bayern instead.

Ironically enough, Boateng is unlikely to get United knocking on his doors for the second time, as they’ve already agreed to sign Raphael Varane from Real Madrid. The Frenchman is equally decorated, and more importantly, a younger option than him.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer also has Harry Maguire, Victor Lindelof, Eric Bailly, Phil Jones, and Axel Tuanzebe at his disposal.

Such is the abundance of centre-backs at Old Trafford, that the Norwegian is anticipating Tuanzebe leaving on loan this summer.

Mourinho is also planning to sign a new defender, but Boateng’s name is yet to be linked with Roma as of now. Instead the Portuguese is reportedly targeting a reunion with Bailly.
