Paul Pogba and Bruno Fernandes displayed just what their partnership is capable of when on its peak in a 5-1 win over Leeds United.

Marcelo Bielsa’s defence and midfield were left helpless against the dynamic pairing.

The Frenchman created all but one goal – becoming the first Man Utd player to provide 4+ assists in a single Premier League game. The Portuguese, meanwhile, went home with the match ball.

Their individual brilliance have always been revered, but there have been question marks over their ability to combine successfully to open up defences regularly, coupled with whether Pogba wants to be a part of any such partnership in the first place, as his future still remains uncertain.

On Saturday afternoon, the 28-year-old put both theories to the sword, first by directly linking up with Fernandes for two of the Portuguese’ three goals and then showing just how much he’s enjoying the company of Magnifico on the pitch by copying the latter’s trademark ‘hands over ears’ celebration.

The love affair didn’t just end after the full-time whistle, as Pogba was spotted jokingly spraying his water bottle towards Fernandes during the Portugal international’s post-match interview.

The fans at the Stretford End cheered both facets of the partnership – the goals and the laughs – in equal measure.
