Manchester United weren’t at their best against Wolves, but crucially won all three points and extended their away unbeaten streak to a record-breaking 28 matches in English league football.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side will be expected to challenge for the title after securing an agreement to sign Cristiano Ronaldo from Juventus.

In order to do so, scruffy wins like the one at Molineux will play a big part in their ambitions. Not every full-time result needs to mirror the Leeds United thrashing to win the Premier League.

On Sunday, Mason Greenwood stepped up to find a winner out of nothing through his vicious strike past Jose Sa. And following Ronaldo’s arrival, the Red Devils will have one of the best players in the game to produce in clutch moments, when things are not necessarily going in their favour.

David de Gea himself made miraculous double save to keep the scores level, and gave his thoughts in his post-match interview, albeit after making a joke, on the Ronaldo signing.

“Who?! *laughs* It is a dream for the fans, for us. To have him back is great, you felt it in the atmosphere today,” the Spaniard told Sky Sports.

Paul Pogba, who was at the centre of the controversy that preceded United’s winner, also underlined the qualities the Portuguese icon will bring with him at Old Trafford.

The Frenchman said: “He [Cristiano Ronaldo] is already a legend at this club. He will bring experience and quality, the level goes up when he comes. We are pleased.”
