What Varane Said About His Partnership With Maguire Following Their First Game Together
Raphael Varane has spoken about playing next to Harry Maguire and he seems to be enjoying it.
Manchester United fielded their brand new centre-back partnership on Sunday during a hard-fought win against Wolverhampton Wanderers. The pair put up a solid display and earned themselves a cleansheet.
The addition of Varane to United’s backline was a big necessity and it clearly has started to pay off. Maguire lacked a consistent presence next to him throughout his career at Old Trafford and the Frenchman was brought in to bolster the defense whilst also providing him stability.
Meanwhile, the former Real Madrid man has given his verdict on his new partner and things look very positive.
“Very good,” said the French international via MUTV. “He’s [Harry Maguire] a good player.
“We had good communication, that’s very important, and the same spirit: to fight and to win the game.”
Although the Red Devils might miss Victor Lindelof’s distribution, the new arrival makes up for it with many other qualities. His experience and success in Europe is another aspect Ole Gunnar Solskjaer would hope his players learn from.
Moreover, it is very important that players who are likely to start almost every game are on the same wavelength. The ex-Lens man clearly trusts his partner and rates him highly, which can only help improve their teamwork.
Now the question is whether this new duo will be able to pull off the same level of performance for an entire season, especially having not faced any of the top-six opposition. Only time will tell how things will turn out, but at the moment Solskjaer will be happy with his squad as the Premier League campaign heats up.
