Man Utd Transfer Update: Cavani And Martial’s Future, Midfield Situation On Deadline Day
As clubs brace for the transfer deadline on Tuesday, there has been a significant update on Edinson Cavani, Anthony Martial and midfield situation at Manchester United.
After the import of Jadon Sancho from Borussia Dortmund, it always seemed likely that United would offload one or more of their forwards. Although the extension of Edinson Cavani’s stay pointed towards Anthony Martial as the obvious option, both are set to stay at the club, according to The Athletic.
Cavani’s future seemed to be up in the air following the return of Cristiano Ronaldo, as he seemed like the obvious choice to play up top. But the club have decided to stick with the Uruguayan.
By the looks of it, Daniel James – who has joined Leeds United on a permanent deal – is the only forward who will exit Old Trafford in the last week of the window.
Meanwhile, the Mancunians have not pursued Wolverhampton Wanderer’s Ruben Neves. The midfielder has been linked with a move to Manchester quite frequently in recent transfer windows, but there seems to be no real interest as of now.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s did explore the possibility of signing Declan Rice but West Ham United’s demands proved to be more than what they were willing to agree to.
It is no secret that the Red Devils need a defensive midfielder. Nemanja Matic is approaching the twilight of his career whilst Fred and Scott McTominay are more suited to backup roles. Due to this, it would not be a surprise if Solskjaer makes a push for a new midfielder if the opportunity arrives before the transfer window closes tonight.
