Manchester United supporters certainly had the stuff of dreams handed onto them on Saturday when the Red Devils secured a 4-1 win over Newcastle United at Old Trafford.

The away side were almost always threatened to be on the losing end of the script, despite leading an excellent first half where they contained and frustrated the attacking caliber of the home side.

However, Cristiano Ronaldo knew precisely what was expected of him and certainly behaved as such. The Portuguese superstar invoked an excellent streak at the Theatre of Dreams, scoring at the cusp of half-time to ensure that his team went into the break leading by a goal.

Newcastle did try their hand at salvaging something with their equalizer, but Ronaldo’s second goal and the impeccable strikes of Bruno Fernandes and Jesse Lingard sealed everything in the end.

Such was the joy that fans simply could not stop singing “Viva Ronaldo” even after the full-time whistle.

In fact, the Old Trafford faithful kept at it, especially when the 36-year-old was delivering his post-match interview giving his appraisal of the game.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer likewise heard the jubilant cries during his press interaction soon after.

It is an understatement that Old Trafford has not heard such joy and victorious confidence in a while. The transfer of the former Real Madrid and Juventus star appears to have stirred the kind of winning mentality that even the change of guard to Solskjaer’s leadership could not ape in recent times.

It has been far too long since United have tasted the glory of silverware which truly matters and in a figure like Ronaldo, they may have finally tapped into precisely that if Saturday’s result can be aped regularly.

Until then, a familiar chant will certainly be heard far and wide.
