Man Utd Will Allow Versatile Defender To Leave If They Manage To Sign England Star In January
Diogo Dalot will be allowed to leave Man Utd if Kieran Trippier arrives at Old Trafford in the January transfer window.
The Red Devils remain interested in signing the England star to compete with Aaron Wan-Bissaka for the right-back position.
The former Crystal Palace man has continued to deliver unconvincing displays going forward. Meanwhile, Dalot has been ripped to shreds defensively in rare appearances under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
But a failure to secure the signing of Trippier last summer saw United reject approaches for the Portuguese talent from AC Milan – the club where he impressed on loan with his versatility on both flanks during the 2019/20 season – and Borussia Dortmund.
Now, AS Roma have come in the frame, with reports suggesting that Jose Mourinho is keen to link up with Dalot again. The former United boss intends to bolster his squad options during the winter window, and has requested Roma to sign the young full-back. But his hopes of landing Dalot hinges on United’s pursuit of Trippier.
According to the M.E.N, the Premier League giants are prepared to open the exit doors for the 22-year-old if they convince Atletico Madrid to sell the Englishman.
Further, a managerial change, which isn’t a far-fetched possibility considering United’s current situation, could also affect Mourinho’s transfer plans, as a new manager could end up preferring Dalot over Trippier.
However, as per the same report, ‘a high-level source’ has indicated the Norwegian could remain at the helm until the end of the season, as long as the situation at the Theatre of Dreams doesn’t become untenable.
