Manchester United are interested in Alexander Isak but will have to fight off interest from Chelsea and Arsenal to sign him.

The Real Sociedad star is one of the most exciting forwards in La Liga, and is considered an alternative to Erling Haaland, who seems destined to join either of Barcelona or Real Madrid in the summer.

Cristiano Ronaldo’s future hinges on United securing Champions League qualification.

According to the Mirror, the Premier League giants see Isak as a potential replacement for the Portuguese if he departs at the end of the campaign.

Considering Ronaldo’s age, United will need a new forward even if he stays beyond this season. Edinson Cavani, back in United’s squad to face Burnley on Tuesday, will also leave when his contract expires in June.

Meanwhile, Chelsea could make a move for the Sweden international should record signing Romelu Lukaku continues to underperform under Thomas Tuchel.

Isak won’t come cheap, as he has a £75m buyout clause in his contract, which runs until 2026. However, the 22-year-old has all the potential to lead the line at United for the next decade.

The Red Devils’ finishing has been a cause of concern for Ralf Rangnick, and the side’s wastefulness in front of goal was mentioned as one of the two points of criticism by the interim boss after their FA Cup exit to Middlesbrough.
