Leeds 2-4 Manchester United: Player Ratings
Manchester United got the job done in a chaotic clash against their fierce rivals Leeds United.
The Red Devils’ first half performance led many to believe it was going to be a rare comfortable win under Ralf Rangnick. But that was not the case in a hostile Leeds atmosphere. Marcelo Bielsa’s men scored two goals in less than two minutes just after the break to make it 2-2.
Rangnick responded by making two quick changes. Substitutes Fred and Anthony Elanga both got on the scoresheet and killed off any hope of a Leeds comeback.
Here’s how the players in red fared in a waterlogged pitch.
David de Gea – 5.5
Was beaten easily by Rodrigo’s goal-bound cross.
Aaron Wan-Bissaka – 5.0
Did well in the first half, but disappointing defending against Daniel James, who assisted Leeds’ equaliser.
Victor Lindelof – 7.0
Excellent on the ball, and his stride forward led to United’s second goal.
Harry Maguire – 7.5
Marked his return to Yorkshire with a goal and solid defensive performance.
Luke Shaw – 5.5
Switched off defensively multiple times. His defending on the back post wasn’t good, allowing Raphinha to meet James’ cross.
Scott McTominay – 6.5
Made many mistimed challenges and was lucky to be on the pitch. But his physicality in the middle of the park was crucial for United.
Paul Pogba – 7.5
Glided past Leeds players for fun in the first half, but was subbed off following two goals from Leeds.
Bruno Fernandes – 8.0
Enjoyed the chaotic nature of the game, and managed a goal and an assist.
Jesse Lingard – 5.0
Started his first Premier League game for United since January 2020, and is unlikely to get another start anytime soon after a quiet outing.
Cristiano Ronaldo – 5.5
Couldn’t convert a tap-in right in front of the goal in the early minutes and his touches were off.
Jadon Sancho – 8.5
Getting better and better with every United appearance. Got himself two beautiful assists.
Substitutes:
Fred – 8.0
Came on for Pogba and made an instant impact to restore his side’s lead.
Anthony Elanga – 7.0
Silenced the crowd with his goal.
Raphael Varane – N/A
