Erik ten Hag is the chosen one. Man United have picked their new manager, and are close to finalising the Dutchman’s appointment.

Mauricio Pochettino was the club’s first-choice to steer the ship after they sacked Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in November.

However, PSG’s firm stance of not allowing their manager to leave mid-season led to United appointing an interim coach in Ralf Rangnick and starting their recruitment process to find the ideal man to take over the helm at Old Trafford come summer.

Now, Ten Hag has come out on top following a series of talks with the Premier League outfit, who are still expected to speak to Pochettino this week but only to inform him that he has not go the job.

Final round of talks involved new chief executive Richard Arnold and joint-chairman Joel Glazer, who took the final decision.

Negotiations with Ten Hag and Ajax are moving quickly and there’s optimism from all parties that the 52-year-old will become United’s next manager, the Telegraph have reported.

A deal is likely to be concluded in the next few days, and it is hoped that an announcement will be made towards the end of next week. The Red Devils will have to pay a £1.7m compensation figure to the Eredivisie outfit.

Further, United are also moving closer to hiring a new deputy football director to assist football director John Murtough, and are looking to formalise an appointment within the next fortnight.
