Nemanja Matic is set to reunite with Jose Mourinho for the third time after agreeing to move to AS Roma.

The midfielder was available on a free transfer after leaving Manchester United following the expiration of his contract. He spent five trophy less seasons at Old Trafford, having joined the Red Devils from Chelsea for £40m during Mourinho’s time at the club.

The Portuguese tactician, who managed Matic at Stamford Bridge as well, has always appreciated the player’s calming presence and physicality in the middle of the park. His experience will come in handy in Roma’s pursuit of Champions League football.

Matic will sign a contract until 2023, with an option for a further 12 months, as per Gianluca Di Marzio.

The 33-year-old will be Mourinho’s second signing ahead of the new campaign after Mile Svilar. The goalkeeper is moving to the Italian capital from Benfica. Meanwhile, Henrikh Mkhitaryan is departing Roma to join Inter.

Matic’s arrival also suggests that Mourinho is not leaving the Europa Conference League champions. He was linked with a managerial role at Paris Saint-Germain, who have decided to sack Mauricio Pochettino.

Paul Pogba could soon follow his former midfield partner to Italy, as Juventus are interested in signing the France international for the second time.
