Few individuals in world football boast of the kind of resume that Wayne Rooney has at his disposal.

As a player, the English striker won it all and made history, in particular with his time at Manchester United. More recently, Rooney decided to don the next hat in his evolution as an individual who is deeply passionate about football.

Now, the player-turned-manager is all set to return to one of his former clubs to take on duties as head coach and manager.

Multiple sources have reliably reported that Wayne Rooney is going to take up the role as the next manager of DC United in MLS. As a player and captain at the same club back in 2018, the veteran footballer had been at the heart of the attempt to take the side to the echelons of American soccer. However, since his departure, United have not been seeing the best of days.

The 36-year-old is all set to rejoin the club in his new role at a pivotal time as the side looks to shrug off multiple forgettable performances from recent times. Of course, managing a football club which is not enjoying the best of success is no new feat for Rooney, whose baptism of fire in the new role came at a critical juncture at Derby County.

Now, the footballing world will be waiting with bated breath for a meaningful change of fortunes for the Englishman in the United States, especially given how his English stint at coaching was not under the most ideal of circumstances.

As for the Manchester United faithful, there may just be a glimmer of hope that this MLS gig is the first in many steps which will eventually culminate in Wazza donning the touchline at Old Trafford once more, this time as a gaffer.
