Ten Hag’s Former Player Is Not Joining United – Has Already Told The Manager
At least on paper, Manchester United do not have a lot going for them this transfer window. Their past few seasons’ record clearly indicates a club in decline and for the campaign about to begin they do not even have the allure of the Champions League to offer what with the Europa League possibly being an issue in them retaining their already existing talent.
As such, it is the history and brand value of the club that is arguably the biggest selling point for any potential youngster looking to switch to Old Trafford.
Having said that, one cannot deny that the presence of a dynamic figure like Erik ten Hag is bound to ensure that a few people may wish to make the switch solely to play under the former Ajax manager.
However, that is not the case for a potential transfer target of the Red Devils.
According to Dutch journalist Mike Verweij, RB Leipzig striker Brian Brobbey personally called Ten Hag to tell him that he would not be joining United.
Specifically, the 20-year-old told the gaffer that he preferred to join Ajax instead. This will come as a blow for United who were reportedly looking to acquire the Dutch international this summer. Clearly, the shared bond between Ten Hag and the starlet did not prove to be enough for the deal to materialize.
Further, this alleged interest also clearly shows that the Premier League giants are clearly in the market for a striker. The uncertainty over Cristiano Ronaldo’s future may be a reason for this.
The pre-season so far has shown a return to form for the likes of Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford so it will be interesting to see whether the solution to United’s striker woes perhaps emerges from one of them instead.
