PSG Terminate Ander Herrera’s Contract – Midfielder Set To Join Another Club
Paris Saint-Germain’s midfield reshuffle has led to Ander Herrera’s contract being terminated two years early by the Ligue 1 outfit.
Herrera moved to the French capital on a free transfer in 2019. Following the expiration of his contract at Manchester United he signed a five-year deal with PSG.
However, the 33-year-old has agreed to terminate his contract two years early after it was made clear that he wasn’t going to play an important role during Christophe Galtier’s reign.
PSG have rejuvenated their midfield under Luis Campos this summer. Young Portuguese midfield duo Vitinha and Renato Sanches have arrived at Parc des Princes, while Georginio Wijnaldum has been loaned to AS Roma.
Herrera is set to return to Athletic Bilbao. The Spanish midfielder, who began his career at Real Zaragoza, spent three years at Athletic before moving to the Premier League.
Meanwhile, his former club United are also in the transfer market for a new midfielder. Having already signed Casemiro from Real Madrid, United are now monitoring Frenkie de Jong’s situation at Barcelona.
The doors remain open for De Jong’s departure from Camp Nou amid Barca’s struggle to register Jules Kounde. The new centre-back signing from Sevilla has missed the club’s first two LaLiga games.
