Facundo Pellistri is expected to leave Man United following Uruguay’s exit from the 2022 World Cup.

Uruguay failed to progress to the knockouts, as South Korea joined Portugal into the next round from Group H after their late win over Fernando Santos’ side.

An early end to Uruguay’s journey in Qatar potentially leaves Pellistri with more days of training under Ten Hag before the January transfer window opens, but it might not necessarily impact his underwhelming situation at Carrington.

Uruguay coach Diego Alonso yet again showed his trust in the 20-year-old star, handing him two starts and an appearance off the bench in the competition. But Pellistri has not managed to win over his club boss, who has left him on the bench as an unused substitute eight times this season.

The winger’s agent insisted before the start of the World Cup that an impressive performance in Qatar could help his client find a new club imminently.

Now that Uruguay are out, Pellistri is likely to leave United on loan or permanently in January. The Red Devils aren’t expected to stand in his way, especially after he failed to light up the World Cup.

Interestingly, another United youngster could force his way into Ten Hag’s squad.

Amad Diallo, who was signed by United in the same summer as Pellistri, has found his feet at Sunderland, where he’s spending a season on loan.

Amad scored the opening goal in Sunderland’s 3-0 win over Millwall in the Championship on Saturday.
