Man United Hold Talks To Sign World Cup Star – Player Ready To Join Ten Hag’s Side
Manchester United’s search for a short-term fix in the final third has led them to Turkey, where Wout Weghorst is enjoying a fine season with Besiktas.
The hierarchy at Old Trafford have been adamant about not spending too much to address their attack mid-season. No permanent options are being assessed, even at low-cost, as per The Athletic. Further, United aren’t too keen on meeting Atletico Madrid’s asking price for Joao Felix either.
It is understood United have now set their sights on Weghorst and have held exploratory talks with Burnley over a potential loan move for the Netherlands international, who scored two late goals against Argentina to take the World Cup quarter-final tie to extra time this winter.
Apart from Weghorst’s physicality and goal-scoring prowess, Ten Hag admires his personality. During the World Cup, the 30-year-old was involved in a heated exchange with Lionel Messi.
Weghorst is currently on loan at Besiktas, who have the option to buy the traditional number nine for €10 million at the end of the season. As such, the Turkish side’s approval is important for any potential move at this stage of the season.

Interestingly, as per Fabrizio Romano, the Dutch forward has already given his green light to return to England’s northwest. During his time at Burnley, he was involved in five goals in 20 Premier League appearances.
Weghorst isn’t the only striker being monitored by United, who are also looking at his international teammate, Memphis Depay.
