Ten Hag Becoming ‘Impatient’ With Manchester United Star

Erik ten Hag got it wrong with his substitutions at St James’ Park, as Callum Wilson sealed Newcastle’s win minutes after the away manager subbed off both of his centre-backs to have more attacking options on the pitch.

Victor Lindelof was the only Manchester United centre-back left to defend Kieran Trippier’s set-piece delivery, which Wilson expertly flicked into the far post to make it 2-0. The idea of adding another forward – Facundo Pellistri for Lisandro Martinez – in search of an equaliser back-fired and the Red Devils returned home with a worse goal difference.

However, such was United forwards’ display on Sunday that Ten Hag was left with no other option but to take desperate measures. Marcus Rashford, Antony and Wout Weghorst failed to take a single shot on target in the first half. The introduction of Jadon Sancho and Anthony Martial made little difference, forcing the Dutch coach to look at his bench once again for another attacker.

The over-reliance on Rashford is starting to become a big problem for United, with their other star forwards failing to contribute to goals consistently.

According to the Manchester Evening News, Ten Hg is becoming ‘increasingly impatient’ with Jadon Sancho. The Englishman has produced a few encouraging cameos after the World Cup, but has not managed to convince the manager he’s good enough to start regularly. In the last five months, he has only managed five starts.

If United decide to be ruthless in the next phase of their rebuild, the 23-year-old might find himself on the list of players the Old Trafford outfit intend to sell in the summer transfer window.
