Manchester United are pushing to sign Alexis Mac Allister from Brighton and Hove Albion at the end of the season but will have to compete with Liverpool.

Both clubs have hit a good run of form heading into the business end of the campaign. The Red Devils cemented their place in the top four with their third straight win in the Premier League, beating Nottingham Forest 2-0 despite the absence of a number of key players. The Merseyside Reds, meanwhile, displayed their fire-power yet again, thrashing Leeds 6-1 away from home.

However, recent results are unlikely to deter the Premier League giants from addressing their midfield issues, which have played a big role in preventing Erik ten Hag and Jurgen Klopp from getting the best out of their respective sides.

With both United and Liverpool looking to address the same position, they may compete for some of the same targets. It is being reported one player is already on the radar of both clubs.

According to Cesar Luis Merlo, they are pushing the most to sign the Argentina midfielder. Earlier this season, the World Cup winner signed a new Brighton contract until 2025, with an additional one-year option. However, it is claimed he will surely leave this summer.

Liverpool, having ended their pursuit of Jude Bellingham, are searching for a new box-to-box midfielder, and Mac Allister fits the profile. The 24-year-old has the physicality to play in Klopp’s intense pressing system. According to Fabrizio Romano, Liverpool also made an approach for Bayern Munich’s Ryan Gravenberch. The Anfield outfit are expected to sign more than one midfielder in the summer transfer window.

As far as Manchester United are concerned, Mac Allister’s ability in possession could elevate the technical floor of their midfield.
