Three high-profile names could leave Manchester United after “unacceptable” display

Manchester United’s hierarchy are preparing to adopt a ruthless approach, which puts the futures of up to 15 players in doubt.
The Red Devils gifted Sevilla four goals across the two legs in a 5-2 defeat on aggregate, ending Erik ten Hag’s hopes of lifting three trophies in his maiden season. The lack of character and grit displayed at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan stadium also paints a bleak picture for fans travelling to Wembley for United’s FA Cup semi-final clash against Brighton and Hove Albion.
United would have to make a lot of changes during the summer transfer window to ensure the manager’s post-match assessment of his players next season doesn’t include words like ‘unacceptable‘.
According to the Telegraph, Ten Hag had already reached decisions on the futures of a number of players. But the performance against Sevilla may only have ‘hardened his stance’ for a big clear-out that could see the outgoing list at the end of the summer reaching double digits.
Three high-profile names could leave Manchester United
It is understood that Harry Maguire, Victor Lindelof, and Anthony Martial are among the most high-profile names who face uncertain futures.
The United skipper was involved in a mix-up with David de Gea that opened the doors for Sevilla to take an early lead. Victor Lindelof was relatively a composed figure at the backline on Thursday night, but he’s seldom been picked by the manager and is attracting interest from Italy.
Martial, who spent an underwhelming loan spell at Sevilla during the second half of last season, had the perfect stage to impress both sets of fans and show Ten Hag he can be relied upon. But the 27-year-old never managed to scare Sevilla’s defence and came off injured before the hour mark.
In addition to these three high-profile names, the likes of Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Fred and Donny van de Beek are also not guaranteed a place in Ten Hag’s overhauled squad.
