Fulham’s second trip to Old Trafford this season ended in a similar manner to the first, as Manchester United once again came from behind to secure a win. But Marco Silva’s conversation with Fred might have ensured the Cottagers didn’t return to London empty handed.

The Fulham manager was seen speaking with the Manchester United midfielder outside the stadium after the full-time whistle, with reports suggesting Fred has emerged as a target for the Portuguese manager.

Erik ten Hag handed Fred a rare Premier League start on Sunday, and the Brazilian replied by playing a pivotal role in both of United’s goals.

Tete, who opened the scoring for Fulham, tried to win the ball off Fred inside the penalty area, and could only divert it in Jadon Sancho’s path. The Englishman made no mistake from close-range and made it 1-1. Fred had the Fulham defender to thank for creating United’s first goal, but the second was all his work. The 30-year-old sliced Fulham’s defence with a reverse ball that Bruno Fernandes beautifully placed in the back of the net to give United the lead.

Manchester United considering Fred’s exit

However, Fred’s scintillating performance in the final league game of the season is unlikely to make much difference to his long-term future at United.

According to the Manchester Evening News, intermediaries have proposed a possible move to Fulham for Fred, who’s approaching the final year of his contract at Old Trafford and lost his starting spot to Christian Eriksen and Marcel Sabitzer in the second half of the season.

Fred’s fellow countryman and his former midfield partner, Andreas Pereira, moved to Fulham from United last summer.

Meanwhile, United are keen on signing a younger midfielder, and have been linked with Chelsea star Mason Mount.
