Manchester United are set to sign English defender Harry Amass from Watford.

United’s talks with Chelsea over the transfer of Mason Mount have reached an impasse, with the Red Devils not keen on increasing their offer to get closer to the Blues’ asking price of over £60m. Having already pulled out of the race for Harry Kane, United were hoping to quickly wrap a deal for Mount and add a fresh face to Erik ten Hag’s squad before pre-season. As things stand, Mount will not become their first summer signing.

The club’s hierarchy also remain uncertain about their Number 1 for the next season and are yet to make a decision on David de Gea’s future. The Spaniard becomes a free agent in less than a week. The situation is bound to frustrate Ten Hag, who wants to add a new striker, goalkeeper, right-sided centre-back, and at least one midfielder to his squad.

Manchester United to strengthen their youth department

United’s recruitment team, however, have shown commendable decisiveness in the transfer market to strengthen their youth setup.

According to Fabrizio Romano, United are set to sign Watford’s highly-rated defender Harry Amass. He tweeted: “Manchester United are now set to sign English talented fullback Harry Amass, deal done. It will be signed, completed this week.”

Amass, who is regarded as one of the brightest young talents in England, will sign a four-year contract with United.

The Old Trafford outfit have also ‘launched a bid’ to sign Jack Fletcher and Tyler Fletcher from Manchester City. It is understood United opened talks with City earlier this month to find an agreement to sign promising midfielders.
