Champions League club working on signing Ten Hag’s favourite star
Manchester United sure have been in talk of a lot of departures this transfer window. This is a departure from their usual summer affairs when the club is linked with just about every player up for sale in the window. Part of this could stem from FFP rules to balance the books as well as Erik ten Hag’s intention of clearing the deadwood.
In that regard, the struggle always sits in deciding which player deserves a chance and which player is best permitted to part ways. Thus, young talents have been shown the exit door more often than not this window.
However, the matter is not crystal clear when one examines the precarious case of Donny van de Beek. Purchased to much acclaim and hype, the former Ajax starlet, who was one of Ten Hag’s most trusted players in Amsterdam, simply has not lived up to the hype. The physicality of Premier League football coupled with injury woes has meant that even working under his former gaffer has not been sufficient to ignite the spark in his midfield ethos.
Champions League side Real Sociedad keen on purchasing Van de Beek
As such, it comes as little surprise that the 26-year-old is now rumoured to be exit-bound. According to Fabrizio Romano, amidst other reports, Real Sociedad is the club most keen on purchasing the midfielder this transfer window and are “actively working” to sign the versatile star.
David Silva’s injury and subsequent retirement have left La Real without a quality playmaker ahead of their Champions League journey.
The report from the transfer expert adds that at this stage primarily negotiations are going on and there is no agreement on personal terms with the player or the structure of the deal with the club.
It is unclear whether this spells the end of his time at United with strong indications also hinting that the Red Devils are looking to offload Fred or De Beek and then approach Sofyan Amrabat for a late window transfer.
