Manchester United 3-2 Nottingham: Player Ratings from an underwhelming comeback
Comebacks are usually the stuff of dreams and at Manchester United they are something of a cult presence. Despite that, Saturday’s 3-2 comeback against Nottingham Forest after going 0-2 down does feel like the solution to a problem brought about through one’s own machinations rather than a legitimate overcoming of any crisis.
Here’s how the players fared on a terse Old Trafford evening:
Andre Onana – 7.0
While it is easy to blame the shot-stopper for not being David De Gea in his total scope, it is not entirely his error that the backline is not doing enough to complement his total skillset.
Aaron Wan-Bissaka – 7.5
Did not do altogether too much to influence the game but his tackles were crucial in an erstwhile tame affair.
Raphael Varane – 6.0
Disappointing half from the otherwise impeccable veteran. Could have easily done more to keep both the goals from going in.
Lisandro Martinez – 7.0
Really stepped up his game, particularly in the second half when his passing was the stuff of tactical masterclass.
Diogo Dalot – 7.6
Had a decent overall impact.
Casemiro – 8.5
Goalscorer and calm headed midfield leader, the Brazilian really shushed those critics who had all of a sudden begun doubting him.
Christian Eriksen – 7.8
Such a performance begs the question as to why he was kept out of the starting lineup in the first place and already places big questions about Mason Mount’s future.
Antony – 7.5
Nearly had the scoreline to his name and created multiple chances. Looked much better than his Tottenham Hotspur outing.
Bruno Fernandes – 9.0
The leader that United deserves. Assisted a vital goal and scored the all-important penalty, Fernandes is back in the game.
Marcus Rashford – 8.0
The difference of playing him on the wings again was staggering and while he remains goalless, Erik ten Hag needs to do so more often.
Anthony Martial – 6.0
Entrusted with a rare start and yet he might as well have not played. Rasmus Hojlund cannot get fit quick enough.
Substitutes
Victor Lindelof – 7.0
Stabilized the backline to not leak more goals.
Jadon Sancho – 6.5
Brought on at a crucial time but did not create the needed effect.
Scott McTominay – N/A
