Manchester United contact Chelsea for their left-back after Luke Shaw injury
Luke Shaw’s start to the new season has suffered a jolt with the England international set to spend several weeks on the sidelines through a muscular injury. Tyrell Malacia is also not available because of an unspecified injury and missed the pre-season action.
Álvaro Fernández is the only natural left-back at Erik ten Hag’s disposal but is too inexperienced to be trusted to regularly feature in the Premier League. The Dutch coach went with Diogo Dalot instead in his side’s 3-2 win over Nottingham Forest on Saturday.
Moreover, it’s understood United are in the market for a left-back on a short-term basis.
Manchester United contact Chelsea for Marc Cucurella – Fabrizio Romano
According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, United have landed at Stamford Bridge in their search for a new left-back. He says that the Red Devils have made contact with Chelsea to understand the conditions for a potential deal for Marc Cucurella.
Having said that, United haven’t made any bid for the Spaniard or even held concrete talks yet. Further, there are three candidates in their list of “not too expensive” left-backs.
Cucurella has struggled to repeat his Brighton or Getafe form at Chelsea. In the opening three games under new manager Mauricio Pochettino, he has accumulated a grand total of zero league minutes, with the Argentine preferring Ben Chilwell for the left wingback role.
This is a clear indication he’s surplus to requirement in London, but whether Chelsea’s hierarchy would be open to selling a second player after Mason Mount to their top-four rival remains unclear.
However, Chelsea have been willing sellers this summer and are also in talks with AS Roma to temporarily part ways with Romelu Lukaku. Should everything move without any hiccups, the Belgian will reunite with his former United boss, Jose Mourinho.
